Some of the earlier Siemens 810D and 840D controls can suffer with hard-drive data loss and data corruption. This is more often than not caused by not shutting them down correctly. If the control is accessing or writing data to the hard-drive and it’s turned off, the files become corrupt rendering your machine useless.
We were called to a Hardinge VMC600II with a similar issue, we resolved it by removing the hard-drive, copying a ghost image of the machine into the images folder in the temp partition and then booting into the service menus and carrying out an emergency windows partition restore.
Once the machine was booting correctly, new NC & PLC archives were made and then a complete ghost image of hard-drive made.
